Boracay is a tiny, beautiful, island in the middle of the Philippines. It's a speck just off the northern tip of Panay, a large island in the Visayas region.

Boracay is justly famous for its beautiful White Beach. This beach, made of white coral sand, stretches the full length of its eastern coast.
Dotted along this coast there are many excellent "resorts". Each resort has its own unique restaurants and bars, some open 24 hours, and often has a dive centre attached.

Considering it is only an hour and a half from Manila - Asian Spirit to Caticlan and then 20 to 30 minutes by pump-boat from Caticlan to Boracay, the place is incredibly inexpensive. 3 nights 4 days B&B for two including all connections from Manila cost P17000 during the peak season - about £300.

It is well worth a visit if only for the sheer pleasure of sitting at Charles' Bar on the beach after sunset, sipping ice cold San Miquel, and chatting with that special person. In my case that special person is Liza Sanchez.

Here she is trying to decide what to order for lunch at Mango Ray's restaurant. The Filipino food was both excellent and extremely well priced.
On the right she is modelling my silly sunhat. Given the Filipina's well developed sense of fashion and style , this was a serious sacrifice!

This is the main street on Boracay - it runs the full length of the White beach. Every few yards there is a new and different resort, serving a variety of cuisines from English all the way to Japanese, going the long way round.
If you got tired of walking you could always hire one of the many tricycles which are such a feature of Philippines. To be pedalled along was pleasant and cost practically nothing.
